Separation and washing of mercury paste

The mercury paste obtained from the amalgamation operation is mixed with a large amount of heavy sand minerals, gangue and other impurities, which must be separated by washing. This work is commonly known as "clear mercury."

Since the density of the mercury paste is much greater than other heavy minerals, it is easily separated by washing in the re-election equipment . Amalgam obtained from the amalgamation of the barrel and the capture of mercury is usually treated with Ad gold plate or short chute. Some countries are treated with amalgam or a small cyclone. Figure 1 shows a sharp-bottomed mechanical gold pan used in many gold mines in South Africa to process amalgamation products. Its disc has a diameter of 900 to 1200 mm, the bottom of the disc is concave, and the periphery of the disc is 100 mm high. The rear of the disc is mounted on a crank tie rod, the front end of which is supported by a rollable guide roller, and the movement of the power from the bevel gear by the crank causes the disc to move horizontally. After the product of the mercury-mixing cylinder is poured into the gold pan, the slurry is sent to the front end of the disk and discharged by the launder as the disk moves and the water flows. The high-density mercury paste collects in the center of the disk and is discharged from the bottom outlet. A 1200mm diameter sharp bottom mechanical gold pan handles the amalgamation product 2~4t.

China's self-designed heavy sand separation disc has a structure similar to that of the above-mentioned sharp-bottom mechanical gold pan. Its disc has a diameter of 700mm and a height of 120mm. One (1.5 ~ 2h) operation can handle 60 ~ 120kg of mercury amalgamation products.

There is also a mercury paste separator as shown in Figure 2. The slurry is added to the hopper and the larger particle gangue is removed through the screen. The fine-grained material passing through the sieve hole falls into the front-end capture box, and the water flow in the supply tank is vigorously washed, and the fine-grained gangue enters the terminal capture box through the various strips, and the mercury paste remains in the front-end capture box. And the grid.

In addition, there are hydraulic traps that separate mercury paste from heavy sand minerals.

The mercury paste scraped off from the above listed equipment and the mercury paste scraped off on the amalgam plate are relatively clean, but need to be washed on a rectangular table. Station mesa laying a thin copper plate, around the mesa 20 ~ 30mm high nailed strips of wood, to prevent the operation of a mercury when dispersed onto the ground. The mercury paste is firstly placed in a porcelain dish and repeatedly rinsed with water, and the operator repeatedly rubs it with a gloved hand to maximize the possibility of washing away impurities in the mercury paste. The iron mixed into the mercury paste can be sucked out by a magnet. In order to obtain a soft and easy to handle amalgam, it can be diluted with mercury. The mercury paste containing more impurities is dark gray, and the washing operation is continued until the mercury paste is bright and clean.

The washing of the mercury paste can also be carried out in hot water. As the temperature increases, the mercury paste becomes softer and thinner, and is easier to clean. However, the increase in temperature will accelerate the volatilization of mercury and endanger the health of the operator, so it should not be used if safety conditions are not available.
